Raised in the United Kingdom, based in Amsterdam and working globally, Tom Bird [1990] earns his crust as an art director, but often pretends he’s a photographer.

His photographic approach was refined over a number of years spent documenting the growing skateboarding scene in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. Capturing the fragile freedoms of youth within an area of hostile military occupation helped to sharpen his sensitivity and taught him of the responsibility that comes with holding a camera.

His work has been published by i-D, Good Sport, Stack, Table Magazine, NTS and Essay Skateboard Magazine, and exhibited as part of group shows in The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Czech Republic.

This ongoing exploration into the connection between age and colour – ‘the process of beiging’ – uncovers a deeper story about the critial issue of loneliness in Britain’s older generations.
